Guest Post: Scheduling and Time Management for Pastors
One of the biggest challenges we face as pastors is managing all of the things we need to do. There are plenty of posts out there about learning the art of delegation–determining what only you can do, equipping others to do ministry, and becoming comfortable with sharing responsibilities. But at the end of the day, there is still usually a ton on our plate.
Some things–like preparing a sermon–can take up an infinite amount of time if we allow it to. Other things–like pastoral care–can have a sheer number of details that are important to keep track of but are difficult to remember off the top of your head.
In the video above, Rev. Brian Johnson of Tomoka United Methodist Church in Ormond Beach, FL shares how he organizes and keeps track of his pastoral responsibilities using the to-do list platform Nozbe. While the video features this specific program, many of the same features are available in other programs. The value in this video is how he uses it, and I have been able to implement some of his strategies in the program I use.
In the comments below, I would love to hear your tips and tricks for managing your time and tasks. Most specifically, do you have a template, pattern, or checklist you use in sermon and/or worship prep?
