May All Your Toast Be Perfectly Buttered

While A Charlie Brown Christmas is rightfully the most beloved Peanuts special of them all, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving has a great message as well.

In case you’re fuzzy on the details, Peppermint Patty invites herself and half the neighborhood over for Thanksgiving dinner at Charlie Brown’s house. Since he was supposed to eat at his grandmother’s house later in the day, Charlie Brown, Linus, Snoopy, and Woodstock are forced to throw something together at the last minute. It leads to the memorable cooking scene in the clip above, and a feast of buttered toast, popcorn, pretzels, and jelly beans served on a ping-pong table.

Upon seeing this random assortment of decidedly non-traditional Thanksgiving fare, Peppermint Patty explodes–this is not an acceptable Thanksgiving dinner! Insulted and dejected, Charlie Brown leaves the table with his head hung low.

Thanks to Linus’ historical lessons and Marcie’s interpersonal skills, things are patched up between the friends. Charlie Brown’s grandmother then saves the day by inviting them all over for a proper Thanksgiving feast.

As you relax and fellowship this Thanksgiving holiday, my prayer for you is not that everything turns out perfect. That would certainly be awesome, but that’s not what Thanksgiving is all about, Charlie Brown. It is about creating an environment–practically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally–where we are reminded of what is truly important and whom we have to thank for all of it.

I want to take this moment to express my deep gratitude to you for being a part of the journey with me this year. I relaunched the blog 10 months ago, transitioned to this work full time over the summer, and kicked off the podcast just a couple weeks ago. Whether you have been following here for most of the year or are brand new, I am thankful that you allow me to serve you through my work. If there is ever any way I can serve you better, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

May God bless you and your family this Thanksgiving. May your feast be magnificent, whether it is traditional or not. May all of your toast be buttered. And Go Gators–beat FSU!

Peace,
Dan
